Ayom is a multicultural band consisting of 6 members from Angola, Brazil, Greece and Italy, with a Brazilian singer and percussionist Jabu Morales at the centre. They describe themselves as “musical sailors crossing the Black Atlantic from Brazil to Angola and Cape Verde with a distinctly Mediterranean identity”. This and the name Ayom, which refers to the “Lord of Music” in Afro-Brazilian mythology, is an apt description, as the band is the winner of the Best Group Award in Songlines Music Awards 2021.
